South Dakota Web Committee to Review State Web site Policy

The new Web committee will meet on Sept 1

South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds announced that the newly appointed state Web site Policy Review Committee will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 10 a.m. (CT) in the governor's large conference room at the state capitol.

"State government is responsible to its citizens," said Gov. Rounds. "This includes being responsible for our Web sites and making sure we are providing credible information for all South Dakotans. We need to assure the public that content found on the state Web site is in the public's interest and is appropriate for all citizens," said Rounds.

Members representing the state include:
  • Bureau of Information and Telecommunication Commissioner Otto Doll, committee chair

  • Administration Commissioner Paul Kinsman

  • Attorney General Larry Long

  • Education Secretary Dr. Rick Melmer

  • Health Secretary Doneen Hollingsworth

  • Secretary of State Chris Nelson

  • Janelle Toman, Board of Regents

  • Jim Fry, Legislative Research Council

  • State Representative Rebekah Cradduck
Members representing the public include:
  • Bobbie Worth, Aberdeen

  • Dawn Morris, Pierre

  • Deb Hagemeier, Sioux Falls

  • Eric Abrahamson, Rapid City

  • Rich Mittelstedt, Watertown

  • Tim Waltner, Freeman

"I have challenged this talented group of individuals to begin reviewing the existing state Web policy as it relates to content found on the South Dakota Web site and the links from the South Dakota site to other sites," said Gov. Rounds. "After their review, they will give me their recommendations."

Following the review and policy update, other agencies can begin reviewing their Web site content.
