Southampton Launches E-Payment Solution

The Town of Southampton, N.Y., went live recently with an E-payment solution from Govern Software. Citizens of Southampton can now pay their taxes, conveniently, from the comfort of their own homes. No more trudging out on a cold winter's day, dealing with traffic or waiting in lines, residents can simply log onto the Internet and at anytime of the day or night pay their bills online, in real time! Their accounts are adjusted immediately, as if using an automatic teller machine. They can click back to the initial Web page, and view their new balance. If they make a call to the Town Hall, the clerk sees the new updated balance. There is no need to wait until the next business day for a database to be updated.

The town has already processed approximately $321,000 worth of credit card payments online. To date the implementation and use of the online payment component has been "very, very successful" says Gaudiello. "We are especially pleased with the real-time aspect of the system. This is a unique solution! It is as if another cashier worked for the town except that taxpayers themselves key in their own payments," said Gaudiello.
