Vermont Competes in 21st Century

Identify and address concerns for future generations

Governor Jim Douglas announced that his administration will engage young Vermonters in a dialogue about how to make Vermont a better and more affordable place to live, work and raise a family.

Governor Douglas said this outreach effort?spearheaded by the Agency of Commerce and Community Development with guidance from a consultant experienced in generational surveying and marketing?is intended to make Vermont more competitive in the 21st Century economy. "We've made a great deal of progress in the last few years, but if our economic and job creation successes are to continue the state must take steps now to identify and address the concerns of future generations of workers, as well as today's working Vermonters," the Governor said.

One of the outcomes of the administration's research will be information that can be used to help refine Vermont's image in a way this group and young people outside the state will be attracted to. "We must get to know the next generations of Vermonters better. We need to know what infrastructure they want, and what their expectations are about career, activities, social engagement, and quality of life."
