Vermont Introduces Online Vital Records Ordering

The service allows citizens to pay for vital records such as birth, death, marriage, divorce, civil union, and civil union dissolution certificates from any computer with an Internet connection.

The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) and the Department of Health has introduced an easy way to order vital records through the state's official Web site at http://www.Vermont.gov.

The service allows citizens to pay for vital records by from any computer with an Internet connection. Vital records include birth, death, marriage, divorce, civil union, and civil union dissolution certificates.

"We're very excited to add this online service for the citizens of Vermont," said Mark Reaves, Public Records Officer for the state. "Especially in light of recent policy changes regarding identification and travel, this service will allow the public to retrieve vital records conveniently in a secure and timely fashion."

Accessible at https://secure.vermont.gov/BGS/vitalrecords or directly from Vermont.gov , the service offers the public the ability to purchase vital records for $10.00 -- the same price they would pay if they drove to Middlesex to buy them in person. The online service accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit card payments that are processed through Vermont.gov's secure payment server.

The online service culminates a collaborative effort between the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services, the Vermont Department of Health, and Vermont Information Consortium to streamline an ordering system for vital records that had been previously handled by each department independently.
