Virginia County Launches Web Forum to Share Ideas Related to Saving Energy

"I have heard great stories from people throughout our region and the country."

What the heck is "Big Bubba" anyway, and why should we care? Where can I buy a compact fluorescent light bulb? Why is Arlington, Virginia, tackling global warming? Answers to these and many more questions can be found in the AIRE blog.

Arlington County recently launched the AIRE blog as a forum for exchanging practical ideas, tips, and experiences related to saving energy and combating global warming. Users can read postings, add their own comments about the postings, and also sign up for regular blog feed. The AIRE blog is among the first government-sponsored blogs in the region.

Arlington County Board Chairman Paul Ferguson wrote the first posting. "Many Arlington residents, businesses and organizations are already doing their part to save energy and reduce greenhouse emissions -- and I have learned a great deal from their efforts and expertise," Ferguson observed. "I have heard great stories from people throughout our region and the country."

The site has a growing list of guest bloggers, including members of Arlington's environmental and business communities, energy experts, residents, developers, and other. Since its launch just a week ago, the blog has received nearly 1,000 page views.

Arlington County launched the "Fresh AIRE: Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions" campaign on January 1 and is taking concrete steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in County operations, as well as encouraging businesses and residents to help fight global warming.
