Virginia Secretary of Technology George Newstrom recently announced newly confirmed speakers for the Commonwealth of Virginia's Information Technology Symposium (COVITS) 2004, scheduled for September 26-28 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia.

"I am pleased to announce that Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems; Larry Weinback, CEO of Unisys; John Thompson, CEO and chairman of Symantec Corp.; and Ed Burns, public sector president of Ciber Inc. will be among those addressing the COVITS delegates in Norfolk," said Newstrom. They join previously announced headliners Dr. Madeleine Albright, Tom Brokaw, and William Kennard.

"Our theme this year is 'Virginia -- Portal to the Emerging Global Marketplace,' and our program will examine the state of the Information Age from the perspectives of nationally-recognized public figures, CEOs, and representatives of public- and private-sector organizations," said Newstrom.

"The insights of these well-known and well-respected technology executives will certainly give the COVITS' delegates an unprecedented look at the future of the IT industry -- what the next generation of development promises.

"And Dr. Albright, Tom Brokaw and William Kennard will take COVITS beyond technology, and into the realm of national and foreign policy," Newstrom explained.

"We invite those leaders at the forefront of change in business, academia and government to join us at COVITS 2004, as we examine both today's critical challenges and the 'art of the possible,'" Newstrom concluded.
