"Allowing candidates to file for office online has really streamlined the process," said Reed. "Where once unforeseen problems could have caused difficulties for candidates who had to travel long distances to file, we now have a system available that allows for fast, easy access to an important part of the democratic process."

In the state of Washington, twice as many public office candidates choose to file on line as opposed to filing in person. Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed announced that out of 183 candidate filings, 116 filed online. Under Reed's leadership, Washington became the first state in the nation to allow online filing on July 22, 2002.
"Allowing candidates to file for office online has really streamlined the process," said Reed. "Where once unforeseen problems could have caused difficulties for candidates who had to travel long distances to file, we now have a system available that allows for fast, easy access to an important part of the democratic process."
