Washington County, Maryland Launches New Public Access Portal

New portal provides access to many government services online

Washington County, Maryland announced today that it has implemented Accela VelocityHall as the county's new public access portal for providing contractors, development professionals, and homeowners access to many government services online. For the first time, the department of permits and inspections is making electrical, plumbing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) permits available online.

The addition of Accela VelocityHall increases access to the department's services, allowing citizens and businesses to apply and pay for permits, check the status of permits, schedule inspections, and check inspection results directly from the Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new online system provides citizens with an option that greatly expedites service to them and streamlines operations for county staff.

"We are excited about expanding our ... services to support our citizens," said Angela Smith, deputy director of the permits and inspections department. "By expediting the permitting process, the online system helps us increase efficiencies internally and build on our goal to provide exemplary customer service."
