The focus of the CIO 100 award changes each year to provide a vision of ever changing business trends. This year, CIO honors 100 organizations that demonstrate the resourceful use of technology and related assets in a tough economic climate.
"This year's CIO 100 award recipients are being honored because their organizations have demonstrated resourceful use of IT systems, staff and budgets," said Abbie Lundberg, editor in chief of CIO magazine. "Maximizing return on investment is a priority when times are tight, and these organizations excel in generating greater value from limited resources."
As a full-service technology agency, DIS focuses on transforming citizens' relationship with government through reliable, effective and innovative technology leadership. DIS provides a robust infrastructure that helps state agencies implement technology solutions, which are customized to each organization's business needs. In this environment, state agencies and local governments maximize limited internal resources to streamline administration and launch e-services that make it easier for the public to obtain government information and services.
DIS provides telecommunications, computing and digital government services to more than 700 state agencies, boards and commissions, local governments, tribal organizations and qualifying nonprofits. DIS operates a secure, statewide standards-based telecommunications network providing reliable, economical voice, data and video communications.
The DIS data center is one of the largest in the Northwest, combining both client server and mainframe computing in a secure, controlled environment. DIS also operates the state's Internet portal, Access Washington, offering a single point of entry for citizens and businesses to government information and services.
"Our citizens expect extremely high standards for government services," said state CIO and DIS Director Stuart McKee. "This award confirms that our technology and services are on a par with the best companies in the private sector. "The state of Washington is fortunate to employ talented and dedicated people who have the vision and skills to keep our state on the cutting edge of technology development. We are very proud to receive this honor."
