Wisconsin Gov. Announces eHealth Board Appointments

Will develop a strategic plan for statewide adoption and exchange of electronic health records

Last week Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle announced appointments to the e-Health Care Quality and Patient Safety Board. The Board was created by the Governor's Executive Order 129 on November 2, 2005 and will develop a strategic plan for statewide adoption and exchange of electronic health records in five years.

Health care spending now represents a record 16 percent of the nation's gross domestic product. The goal is to take advantage of health information technology to improve health care quality and safety while reducing overall costs in the system. This is a key component of Governor Doyle's Grow Wisconsin plan for economic development.

Governor Doyle announced the following appointments to the e-Health Board:
  • Helene Nelson, Chair, Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services
  • Betsy Abramson, Elder Law Attorney and Consultant
  • Christopher Alban, MD, Clinical Informaticist, Epic Systems Corporation
  • Gina Frank-Reece, Deputy Secretary, Department of Administration
  • Bevan Baker, Commissioner of Health, City of Milwaukee Health Department
  • Edward Barthell, MD, Executive Vice President, CIO, Infinity Healthcare
  • Gary Bezucha, FACHE, Administrator, Boscobel Area Health Care
  • Kevin Hayden, Chief Administrative Officer, Dean Health Systems
  • Ravi Kalla, CEO and President, Symphony Corporation
  • Lois Murphy, IT Specialist, Veterans Administration
  • Candice Owley, RN, President, Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals
