Wisconsin Governor Inaugurates Security Site

As a prelude to Independence Day, Gov. Doyle launches Web site that provides homeland security information

MADISON, WISC. -- Governor Jim Doyle and Wisconsin's Homeland Security Advisor Major General Al Wilkening launched the state of Wisconsin's new Homeland Security Web site. The web site was unveiled as the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, a day to remember the responsibilities of citizenship to keep America free.

"In these uncertain times, it is important to provide the most up-to-date information to Wisconsin citizens and provide resources on how they can protect their families in the event of an emergency," Doyle said.

The Web site is designed to help keep Wisconsin families informed on the latest homeland security issues and provide information on how to keep safe during emergencies. The new site provides information on creating a family plan and instructions for preparing emergency supply kits.

The site also provides guidance for families, businesses and local governments when there are changes in the U.S. Homeland Security Threat Conditions Advisory System. The Governor's Council on Homeland Security developed a general checklist for these groups to follow when there is a heightened terrorism alert.

"We believe it is important to provide our citizens, businesses and local governments with direction when there is a terrorism threat change," said Maj. Gen. Wilkening. "The Governor's Council on Homeland Security felt it was one of our top missions to develop this sound guidance."
