Based in the county seat of Lawrenceville, the Gwinnett County Solicitor General's office employs 17 attorneys and 6 investigators, and the District Attorney's office employs 36 attorneys and 23 investigators in its three divisions: Trial Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Victim-Witness Unit. The offices have been using several older software applications to maintain the data needed to investigate crimes, prosecute offenders, and serve the needs of crime victims and witnesses. However, these applications did not offer critical features needed to manage large caseloads, thus requiring significant staff time for tedious and routine tasks, and taking time away from the more critical tasks of investigating and preparing cases.
"Managing a busy office of attorneys with a large caseload and limited resources is a huge challenge," said Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter. "We're looking forward to significant cost savings, reduction of paperwork, and smoother case tracking through the implementation of this system."
The web-based SecureLaw CRIMES solution will provide Gwinnett County with a standard database and a customizable user interface that can be quickly and easily tailored to meet the county's specific needs and preferences. It offers an integrated workflow engine to automate the flow of case documents and communication through the legal system, providing automatic reminders of events and deadlines to ensure timely completion of legal tasks. A document generation module simplifies the production of standard and case-specific legal documents, while a robust reporting module enables staff to easily respond to requests for information and government reporting requirements.
