Linux Professional Institute Announces Initiative with Guangdong Linux Center in China

"The support for Linux and Open Source from the government will greatly encourage and motivate the creativity and innovation in product design and development necessary to move from 'made in China' to 'designed and developed in China'"

The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the Linux certification organization and its Master Affiliate for the Greater China Region, announced Guangdong Linux Center (GDLC) as its sub-affiliate for Guangdong Province -- the largest province by GDP in China. This initiative of LPI's affiliate in Greater China is a key component of LPI's Regional Enablement Initiative in the region.

GDLC is a non-profit organization sponsored by seven major government departments which include the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the Department of Information Industry of Guangdong Province, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Provincial Finance Bureau, the Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province and the Department of Quality and Technology Administration of Guangdong Province.

GDLC is managed and operated by the Department of Information Industry of Guangdong Province. The mission of the center is to promote the use of Linux and Open Source applications within government, enterprise and the general public.

"We share LPI's mission to advocate for and assist the Linux and Open Source Community in China in their efforts to ensure that Open Source software is more broadly accepted and well used by government entities and enterprises through collaborating with hardware and software vendors and the Linux community all over the world," said Dr. Yuan Quan, director of GDLC. "This cooperation with LPI will be very beneficial to GDLC in providing professional training based on world standard LPI certified Linux training programs and LPI's globally recognized Linux professional certification programs."

"We are delighted to have GDLC as our partner in Guangdong province," said Larry McArthur, LPI area operations manager of North America and Asia Pacific. "The accelerating economic development of this Pearl River triangle zone is amazing. The support for Linux and Open Source from the government will greatly encourage and motivate the creativity and innovation in product design and development necessary to move from 'made in China' to 'designed and developed in China.'"
