Los Angeles Revamps its Water and Power Web site

Making it easier for citizens to turn on or off utilities over the Internet

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) recently redesigned its Web site. The Web site is organized into eight general areas including Customer Service, Rebates and Programs, Water, Power, Green LA, Doing Business, Community and Safety and About LADWP.

Customers can conduct many transactions online, such as having services turned on and off and also viewing and paying bills. Before the Web site was updated, these transactions were primarily handled by phone and or mail. The Web site also provides many helpful conservation tips and information on rebate and utility programs.

"With the revamped Web site, LADWP customers will benefit from the latest technology to start service, pay bills and learn about conservation and rebate and utility programs," said Mayor Hahn. "Increased efficiency on the Web site means that Los Angeles residents will spend less time managing their accounts and more time doing the things they really want to do."

Henry Martinez, LADWP acting general manager, said, "The Web site is a win-win for the utility and our customers because it allows us to provide streamlined service transactions, while enhancing the efficiency of our utility's customer services unit."

In order for customers to register on the Web site, they only need their customer access number from their bill. Only one customer or person can be registered per account. If they choose, registered customers can also receive information from LADWP about utility services and programs on a regular basis through email.

For a limited time, LADWP residential customers who register on the Web site will receive as an added incentive, two free compact fluorescent light bulbs that help lower energy use.
