Public-Sector Competency Center Established for Central and Eastern European Region

Oracle to launch in Budapest June first for sharing best practices with central, regional and local governments

Oracle today announced the establishment of a Public Sector Competency Center to support public organizations in the European Enlargement Region to plan, develop and build their future IT systems. The new organization, headquartered in Budapest, will assist central, regional and local government entities in the 10 new European Union member states, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and in other Balkan countries to benefit from Oracle's extensive experience in building public services projects for government departments throughout Europe.

Oracle is the leading provider of software to the public sector in Central and Eastern Europe, and has gathered a significant amount of expertise in public-sector projects worldwide, and specifically in the European Union region. The Public Sector Competency Center will be staffed by a team of highly-skilled industry experts that will be available to both advise and support public organizations with European and worldwide best practices, and to assist local Oracle teams to deliver the projects.

Operational from the 1st June, the Competency Center will initially focus on the following areas in Phase 1: Public Sector Treasury systems, Customs, Taxation, Statistical offices, Citizen Interaction Centers, and Agriculture and Social Systems.

"What we are doing is sharing the best ideas and solutions that we have developed for many governments across the whole of Europe," said Alfonso Di Ianni, Senior Vice President, Oracle European Union Enlargement and CIS Region. "We have vast experience in the requirements of governments in the EU region, and can rapidly implement modern, proven, integrated systems that are today successfully delivering value and efficiency to Europe's citizens."

Oracle has over 15 years' experience of working with public- and private-sector organizations in Central and Eastern Europe, and has particular experience in building IT systems that comply with EU requirements.
