Soldiers Watch Hometown Texas High School Football Game Live

Snyder High School to broadcast game to troops stationed in Iraq

Friday night football games in Texas are legendary, and this Friday is no exception. Tonight, in Snyder, Texas, not only will the Tigers take the field to play the mighty Golden Tornadoes of Lamesa, Texas, they will also be playing for several hometown boys deployed in Iraq.

On Friday, November 3, soldiers based at Al Asad Airbase in Iraq will be able to watch their hometown game and cheer for their comrades back in Snyder via video conferencing.

"We have several Snyder alumni stationed at Al Asad Airbase, so we jumped at the opportunity to bring them some hometown football action," said Larry Scott, principal of Snyder High School. "Knowing that they are watching will make this game really special."

The event is put on by the Freedom Calls Foundation which uses technology to connect troops with their families and communities. "When you think about high school football, there's more than just the game -- hearing the fans, seeing the band and cheer squads, even the little kids playing catch on the sidelines," said John Harlow, executive director of Freedom Calls Foundation. "I know those boys from Snyder will be front and center, and I hope they enjoy every minute of it."
