West Virginia Gov. Presents Suggestion Award to State Employee

Suggestion saved the state an estimated $4,550 annually

On Monday, West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin joined members of the Employee Suggestion Award Board to recognize Cheryl Moore, an employee with the Bureau of Employment Programs, for her suggestion to eliminate redundant mail to vendors -- saving the Bureau of Employment Programs an estimated $4,550 annually.

"West Virginia has the best workers in the country and this is just another example of how dedication and great job performance pays off for everyone involved," the governor said. "Thanks to Ms. Moore, the state of West Virginia will save vital state funds that can be used for other services. Her actions are proof that by working together, we can achieve a more responsible and efficient government that provides a much greater financial return to the state's taxpayers."

Established and placed under the Department of Administration, WV Code 5A-1A-1, the Employee Suggestion Award Program provides state employees who have innovative ideas for cost savings an opportunity for these ideas to be evaluated and implemented. Employee suggestions are submitted to an Employee Suggestion Award Board for review. If the recommendations result in an annual savings to the state, employees are eligible to receive up to 20 percent of the total annual savings as a reward.

The governor presented a $910.00 check to Ms. Moore for her suggestion. Employee Suggestion cash awards are taken from state funds saved as a result of the employee's suggestion. All state employees are eligible to participate in this program.
