Cistera Networks Demonstrates First-Ever LMR Connectivity For Nortel IP Telephony Solutions

Demand for LMR-to-IP interoperability is increasing due to heightened public safety awareness.

Cistera Networks, Inc. has demonstrated the first-ever integration of software-based Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to Nortel IP Telephony systems during the Global Connect 2007 conference this week in Tampa. Cistera's radio-to-IP (RoIP) connectivity, LMRConnect, is a component of the award-winning Cistera Convergence Server, a key communication solution Cistera has successfully provided to customers in Cisco CallManager and CallManager Express environments.Demand for LMR-to-IP interoperability is increasing due to heightened public safety awareness in markets such as homeland security, local and state government, education and healthcare. With the ability to give IP phone users push-to-talk, recording capabilities, and dynamic talk groups, LMRConnect is a compelling solution for any group that needs fast, reliable, and most important, actionable information.

"By integrating two-way radios with Nortel's IP Telephony, Cistera is providing another key functionality that is helping to evolve IP Telephony into true IP Communications," said Greg Royal, Cistera's founder and chief technology officer. "End-users want IP Telephony to be more than dial tone, they want it to be 'communications tone.' To achieve that, leading IP Telephony platforms like Nortel need to support customers' desire for multi-modal communications that aren't limited to single mode or point-based solutions; instead, they need a multi-modal platform like Cistera that enables communications across a number of systems including two-way radio."

Cistera already has a large number of installations on Cisco platforms and has seen a growing demand from Nortel IP Telephony customers who want full Event Alerting and Notification solutions.

"Cistera offers Nortel resellers a single platform with the broadest suite of capabilities including Quality Assurance and Compliance solutions, Event Alerting and Notification solutions and Unified Communications," said Cistera CEO Derek Downs. "By delivering services and advanced capabilities on one platform, we believe that Cistera presents a very strong value proposition for Nortel, its reseller community, and end-users who rely on Nortel IP communications to keep their businesses, schools and cities operating safely, efficiently and within compliance."
