CliniComp Essentris to Be Deployed Throughout Womack Army Medical Center

Systems allows efficient communications between all departments and a secure electronic record that can be referenced from anywhere by appropriate staff.

According to CliniComp, Intl., its full Essentris clinical suite will be deployed throughout Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg, N.C., for use by all on-hands caregivers including physicians, nurses, physical and respiratory therapists, as well as personnel in pastoral care, nutritional and administrative areas.

On an average day, the busy facility -- which serves 180,000 potential beneficiaries -- records 2,350 clinic visits, seven births, 21 surgical procedures, 840 X-rays, CT scans and MRIs and 200 emergency department visits. Its pharmacy fills 4,500 prescriptions.

"With this installation, CliniComp will have the honor of serving the Womack community with our complete range of Essentris capabilities," said John Reardon, president and CEO of CliniComp, "The hospital has recognized the value of our systems for creating efficient communications between all departments and a secure electronic record that can be referenced from anywhere by appropriate staff."

Among many other departments, Womack's scope of services include Primary Care, Emergency Medicine, Pathology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics and General Surgery. Essentris enables physicians, nurses and other clinicians to document patient care electronically, monitor clinical processes automatically, and quickly identify patients who may need assistance. In addition, easy-to-use screens guide clinicians to "best practices," the software solution supports diverse areas of the hospital. The installation will also include two new Essentris modules, OnWatch and ED.

OnWatch automatically evaluates a range of clinical indicators for all patients in the department or unit, at all times to identify potential problems, through real-time alerts, before they occur. ED incorporates special procedural areas into electronic documentation, assembling data from a broad range of sources into a single, simple view. It spans acute care departments, creating a true enterprise-wide medical record.
