Firm in Billings, Montana Tests Free Wi-Fi for Customers

Existing cable network leveraged to provide high-speed broadband Wi-Fi access.

Fujitsu Network Communications and Bresnan Communications, a broadband telecommunications company, announced today that they have launched a wireless solution for free high-speed broadband Wi-Fi access for Bresnan's customers in Billings, Mont. The unique DOCSIS 2.0 interface-based solution leverages Bresnan's existing cable network to provide a high-bandwidth wireless network capable of allowing their customers to use the Internet, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video services."We chose Fujitsu because they offer a complete solution that combines cutting edge technology and products with expert around-the-clock support," said Shawn Fisher, vice president of advanced services technology at Bresnan Communications. "This Wi-Fi network will allow our customers in Billings to enjoy industry-leading broadband performance to check their E-mail, surf the Web, or have access to instant messaging or their company's Virtual Private Network (VPN) wherever they are."

Fujitsu is providing an end-to-end solution that combines the highly regarded Wi-Fi products from BelAir Networks and comprehensive professional services from Fujitsu to create a unique wireless solution that integrates easily within current cable infrastructure and operations. Extensive experience in providing leading-edge solutions within multi-vendor and multi-technology networks allows Fujitsu to offer a seamless systems integration experience.

The Bresnan network utilizes BelAir100S outdoor wireless internetworking nodes which are optimized to offer cable operators a powerful economic advantage. Each node can be strand-mounted, plant-powered, and interconnected to the existing cable infrastructure using a DOCSIS 2.0-compliant interface. Bresnan is also benefiting from Fujitsu Network Life Cycle Services that include site surveys, on-site mentoring, remote technical assistance, training, craft interface software and equipment feature software upgrades.
