Ireland's Last Mile Broadband Expands WipLL Network

"...has shown itself to be very cost-effective, field-proven and reliable in three years of operation"

In November 2004, Airspan Networks (NASDAQ: AIRN) announced the signing of an agreement with Last Mile Broadband of Athlone, Ireland, for deliveries of Airspan's WipLL (Wireless IP Local Loop) and 802.16a-based AS4030 products. More than 50 WipLL base stations today give Last Mile Broadband the capacity to connect up to 6,000 subscribers in the Irish Midlands area with high-speed broadband Internet services in the 3.7GHz frequency band.

Last Mile Broadband has placed new orders for additional WipLL base station and CPE equipment, and has also agreed to purchase 35 AS.MAX base stations and more than 1,000 ProST CPE devices that will operate in the 3.6-3.8GHz FDD and 5.8GHz frequency bands. Last Mile Broadband will use this equipment to launch new higher speed data and VoIP services.

John Gibbons, Director of Last Mile Broadband, commented: "We first introduced Airspan's WipLL products into our network in January 2004. WipLL gave us the ability to offer our customers a wide range of data services on a system that was simple to deploy and grow and easy to manage with its comprehensive management system. After a thorough evaluation of various WiMAX systems, we are now very pleased to have chosen Airspan's WiMAX solution for the continued expansion of our broadband wireless network. The Airspan AS.MAX products use the same architecture as WipLL, which has shown itself to be very cost-effective, field-proven and reliable in three years of operation. We look forward to a similar experience with AS.MAX."
