Communications service providers are required under the Federal Communications Commission's CALEA (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) legislation to provide the ability to intercept VoIP and broadband communications. In order to simplify and cost-reduce the compliance process, some service providers are looking to outsource the secure intercept of requested information to trusted third parties such as Apogee.
"CALEA implementation is an important process that can't be undertaken lightly, and many providers of telephony and Internet services will realize the value of such services offered by Apogee's skilled professionals," said Stephen Gleave, SS8 Networks' vice president of marketing. "Apogee is an ideal partner for SS8 as they not only implement Xcipio based solutions, but they have also enhanced the offering with the development of their unique Secure Intercept Service."
SS8 Networks' Xcipio has proven interoperability with a broad range of networking equipment products and vendors. At the heart of the Xcipio solution, SS8's nucLIus control logic provides the intelligence for Apogee to rapidly integrate an active or passive solution into their customers' heterogeneous network environments.
"Apogee's history as a local exchange carrier and recognized specialist in providing triple play services to college campuses gives us a unique perspective as a trusted third party offering lawful intercept services," said Charles Brady, Apogee president and CEO. "We've been deep into CALEA compliance for some time and our customers can benefit from both our expertise and our robust technology from SS8. We have formed a compliance subsidiary of Apogee that is headed by Robert Foster. Foster, as Division Manager, brings 40 years of technology and security-related experience to our clients."
