NEC, FirstHand Technologies Sign Agreement to Deliver Mobile Unified Communications

NEC to offer global-reach mobile extensions with enterprise functionality.

FirstHand Technologies, an innovator in transforming smart phones and dual-mode devices into full-featured business telephones, and NEC Unified Solutions (NEC) today announced an agreement to deliver Mobile Unified Communications.

Under this partnership, the FirstHand Enterprise Mobility Solution will be fully integrated with the NEC UNIVERGE portfolio. This solution will extend UNIVERGE enterprise functionality to smart phones and dual-mode devices, including BlackBerry RIMs, Nokia E-series devices and Windows Mobile devices, over both the cellular and Wi-Fi networks, creating global-reach mobile extensions. NEC customers will now be able to perform corporate directory lookup, enterprise extension dialing, presence, instant messaging, outlook contact integration, ad-hoc mobile conferencing, visual voicemail, and more from their mobile devices.

"We're very impressed with FirstHand Technologies' expertise in mobilizing the enterprise workforce," said Jay Krauser, GM product management, NEC Unified Solutions. "By partnering with FirstHand Technologies, our enterprise customers will benefit from seamless mobility, unified messaging, single number reach and increased productivity."

"I am very excited to announce this agreement with NEC," said David Hattey, president and CEO of FirstHand Technologies. "NEC is extremely forward-looking in its approach to Mobile Unified Communications and we're proud to be a part of its upcoming offerings."
