Russia's Comstar Introduces Intra Office Wi-Fi Solution for Corporate Wireless Networks

The service is targeting large and medium sized companies.

Comstar-UTS, the leading combined telecommunications operator in Russia and CIS, is launching intra office telephony services via Wi-Fi. This is the first commercial project of its kind in Russia and is an important step towards establishing fully integrated telecom services in the local market.

The service is targeting large and medium sized companies in hospitality, retail and logistics sectors as well as expo centers, which require employee mobility. This service will enable Comstar-UTS' corporate clients to introduce secure intra office telephony networks without significant investments into their CPE (Client Premises Equipment). The rates are competitive compared to mobile tariffs and offer significant savings to users. The service works over the fixed line and thus users are charged fixed line tariffs for making local, zonal, intercity and international calls, while intra office calls are made free of charge.

Corporate customers stand to benefit from the use of wireless technology instead of fixed connection as it results in significant savings on equipment and installation costs. Additionally, clients could offer an integrated Internet access service to their visitors, which will be provided free of charge by Comstar UTS. In the instance, where a client already has access to Internet and Wi-Fi network, the investment will be limited to the cost of Wi-Fi telephone equipment.

Dmitry Dronov, vice president for marketing of Comstar UTS noted, "At this stage in the development of the wireless market, we expect selective consumption for this type of service from the customers who require employee mobility. Initially, we plan to provide this service to our existing corporate clients, who will realize the benefit of intra office wireless networks from both cost and efficiency perspective. We expect to launch a convergent GSM/Wi-Fi product in the mass market in the near future."
