Speech Technology Used for 511 Road Traffic Information Service in Georgia

Georgia road conditions and weather information accessible via speech recognition.

According to Fonix Speech, Inc., Meridian Environmental Technology, a provider of weather forecasting and road information services, has deployed a 511 traveler information service in Georgia that incorporates Fonix speech recognition technology. Fonix licenses its speech technology to Meridian under a non-exclusive contractual agreement."With Meridian's 511 system, drivers access travel-related information with simple voice commands," explains Mark Owens, VP, Meridian transportation services. "The system utilizes Fonix speech recognition technology to query a database for highway information. Drivers call 5-1-1, and the application enables them to access information about weather and road conditions as well as accidents, construction projects and other general travel information."

Meridian and Fonix have previously partnered to incorporate Fonix speech recognition into Meridian's 511 traveler information systems available in Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska and Montana.
