Suspicious Substance Scare Shuts Down Florida Court

Universal Detection Technology says such incidents strengthen case for monitoring technology deployment.

Universal Detection, a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bio-terrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that the Palm Beach County Courthouse in South Florida has been evacuated and secured by police after a suspicious substance was found by authorities.

According to the Palm Beach Police Department the substance found is tellurium, a relatively rare element, which experts say should be considered toxic and handled with care. Universal Detection Technology is a provider of counter terrorism products and services. The Company's flagship product, BSM-2000, is a real-time bacterial spore monitor used for detection of bio-terror agents such as anthrax in the air. The Company also offers preparedness training and educational DVDs to security and law-enforcement personnel.

"Today's scare is a clear indication of a nation-wide vulnerability to terrorist attacks with weapons of mass destruction such and chemical and biological agents," said Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's chairman and CEO. "Our goal is to focus on the nature of this threat and to prepare the nation to mitigate the risks by implementing sound and economical detection and decontamination procedures and technologies," he added.
