The show, now in its 108th year, kicks off today and runs through Friday at the Scranton Hilton and Convention Center in downtown Scranton, PA. Pennsylvania elected and appointed municipal officials will attend this conference to share innovative ideas, discuss issues of mutual concern, attend educational and leadership development sessions centered around our convention theme -- On the Right Track: Connecting Communities to the Future.
AIM's innovative business model installs the network into the municipality and manages the network, as well as the official portal page, working with local and national content providers to bring a world of information and interactive programming to the consumer. Revenues generated from access fees, advertising and sponsorships as well as other interactive programs are then shared with the community, directly benefiting taxpayers and local organizations alike.
" Wi-Fi is no longer in the future -- it's here, right now," Ziembicki said. "From improvements in public safety to better educational opportunities, the benefits of having a Wi-Fi network grow each day as the technical capabilities change and improve."
Among the benefits:
* Public Internet Access -- AIM is bridging the so-called "digital divide," offering municipalities of any size the chance to provide low-cost public Internet access to residents that is safe and affordable in an environment they already love.
* Public Works -- AIM's Wi-Fi network provides a backbone for municipal public works departments, enabling municipalities to centralize communication for repair and maintenance services and streamline operations. Projects and timelines can be tracked more accurately. Location of service vehicles, like snow plows and trucks, can be monitored in real-time.
* t1 replacement -- AIM's municipal wireless solution offers high bandwidth users a cost-effective alternative to the traditional telephone company T1 line by delivering the same bandwidth with far more flexibility - reliable Internet for your business at a fraction of the cost.
* E-learning -- AIM's mesh network connects learners to classes from anywhere in their hometown. Learners - whether school-age or not - can work in their own time, in their own space, right after school or right after the kids go to bed, expanding their minds from the comfort of their own living room.
