Getronics Accelerates Reliable, Cost-Effective Wireless Network Deployment

By implementing its model for wireless network management, government agencies are able to comply with the information security guidelines and save 20-40 percent, says company.

Getronics, a global leader in IT services, today announced immediate availability of its Mobility Infrastructure Services based upon Wireless Integrated Security, Design, Operation, and Management (WISDOM), the industry's first turnkey methodology to embed and integrate lifecycle design and management with security and reliability engineering. These services will help clients benefit from less expensive wireless infrastructures that work consistently.

Getronics' Mobility Infrastructure Services reduce the total cost of operations (TCO) of typical wireless network deployment and management by 20-40 percent depending on selection of architectural options and features. Beyond savings, the services deliver reliable connectivity, optimize workforce productivity, increase agility to address client needs and business opportunities, and ensure security and reliability.

"Many organizations are aware of the benefits of a state-of-the-art wireless network environment, but are concerned when they hear stories of information security breaches," said Dr. Tony Dubendorf, solution developer and co-architect of the WISDOM methodology, Getronics. "These instances are the result of improper application or absence of security. The WISDOM methodology applied to our services enables us to weave in security and reliability from planning and design through management."

The current version of WISDOM has evolved from Dr. James Ransome's Doctoral dissertation from a U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. Dr. Ransome's dissertation resulted in a tested and validated security model, architecture, and best practices for converged wireless-wired network security. By implementing the WISDOM model for wireless network lifecycle management, government agencies are able to comply with the information security guidelines for federal government departments and agencies as outlined in the Federal Information Processing Standards, specifically FIPS 140-2 and 140-1.

Getronics' Mobility Infrastructure Services take advantage of the wireless WISDOM methodology and Getronics performance as one of Cisco's global partners in infrastructure, security, and IP telephony. The WISDOM methodology was co-architected by Dr. Jim Ransome, senior director, secure wireless engineering with Global Government Solutions Group (GGSG) at Cisco Systems and Dr. Dubendorf of Getronics.

Getronics' Mobility Infrastructure Services are extensible to support emerging applications such as VoIP over Wireless Fidelity (VoWiFi), extending the enterprise IP Telephony system wirelessly to improve collaboration and productivity. With these services, organizations are also able to secure and control network access to visitors, contractors, and partners.

"Organizations can also realize significant cost savings by implementing wireless architectures over traditional wired infrastructures," added Dr. Dubendorf. "Since wireless networks do not require the need to run cabling directly to each user, companies can save at least $200 per connection by eliminating the cable, wall outlet, and associated installation labor."

Mobility Infrastructure Services are available today in the United States and are being expanded internationally through 2007. Additionally, the services will be available in the future as an optional module of Future-Ready Workspace, Getronics' integrated solution for driving cost-efficiency, business agility, and worker performance through people's use of information technology.

With some 25,000 employees in more than 25 countries and approximate revenues of USD $3.4 billion, Getronics is a leading international provider of Information and Technology (IT) services and solutions.
