Governor Ehrlich Announces Trent M. Kittleman to Lead Maryland Transportation Authority

Served as deputy secretary since 2003

Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., today announced Trent M. Kittleman has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA). Members of the Authority approved Kittleman's appointment during a meeting today.

The Executive Secretary is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the MdTA. The Authority maintains and operates the State's seven toll facilities and is currently involved in projects to construct the Intercounty Connector in Montgomery and Prince George's County, as well as the development of Express Toll Lanes on some of the State's busiest highways. Prior to this appointment, Kittleman had served as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

Governor Ehrlich appointed Kittleman as Deputy Secretary of MDOT in January 2003. Since then she has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the department that operates Baltimore/Washington International Airport, the Port of Baltimore, an extensive mass transit and highway network, as well as the Motor Vehicle Administration.

"Throughout my tenure as Deputy Secretary, I have been intimately involved in dealing with the challenges facing the Authority," said Kittleman. "Our focus has been, and will continue to be, improving customer service at all our MdTA facilities. At the same time, I look forward to working with the members of the Authority in charting a course for the future that will include the Intercounty Connector and innovative approaches to dealing with congestion in our State. I thank Governor Ehrlich for this exciting and unique opportunity."

Ms. Kittleman resides in West Friendship and is the wife of late State Senator Robert H. Kittleman.
