Inmarsat BGAN is a next-generation satellite service that provides broadband coverage across 85 percent of the world's land mass and 98 percent of the world's population -- including the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, the Indian sub-continent, most of Asia Pacific and Western Australia. The BGAN platform delivers high-bandwidth IP data services, supporting access to the Internet and corporate VPN at speeds up to 492 kbps. The service is accessed via a portable magazine-sized terminal device that can be set-up in minutes, even by non-technical users.
"Inmarsat BGAN extends the boundaries of corporate networks, providing coverage beyond the reach of terrestrial services, and is capable of supporting individual workers or remote offices with multiple simultaneous users," said Perry Melton, vice president of sales & marketing at Inmarsat. "iPass has an excellent reputation in delivering secure connectivity solutions and is relied upon by many of the world's largest organizations. It is the first of a new type of distribution partner for Inmarsat, with strong experience and in-depth understanding of mobile and distributed enterprises. We are very excited that iPass will champion BGAN among its world-class user base, and enable its customers to effectively unify the management of their global connectivity."
The addition of satellite connectivity to the iPass global roaming network will broaden the options available to iPass customers, who already enjoy access to over 75,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, 3G mobile data services, Ethernet in hotels and dial-up access points in over 160 countries.
"Inmarsat has one of the most versatile and reliable satellite networks in the world. Its services ideally complement our existing broadband and wireless access methods, bringing us closer to our goal of ubiquitous and unified mobility," said Anurag Lal, Chief Business Development & Sales Officer. "The improvements in price, performance and usability that Inmarsat BGAN delivers should broaden the practical use of satellite data from extreme situations to gap-fill broadband access for high-value personnel who can't afford to be without a connection."
