Ohio's Clermont and Brown Counties Reestablish County Lines

Survey needed to improve existing GIS property database and manage issues concerning ODOT(Ohio Dept. of Transportation) road mileage reimbursement, road maintenance, voting districts, tax districts, and jurisdiction for emergency situations

Woolpert Inc. was recently awarded a contract by Clermont County through the county engineer and county auditors' offices to conduct a survey line retracement in order to reestablish county lines between Clermont and Brown County. Woolpert previously performed a line retracement survey for the Clermont and Warren County line in 2001.

Using GPS and various conventional survey services, Woolpert will investigate and locate original monuments that were set along the approximate 33.1-mile boundary between the two counties. The reestablishment of the original line will be determined by recovery of the original monuments, in addition to deeds and plats of survey, state highway plans, subdivision plats and occupation of property lines. New line monuments and/or reference monuments will be set once the line is reestablished to make possible future recovery of the county line.

Woolpert will be compiling a report for public use containing the results of the survey and locations of the original and newly set monuments. The county will be able to use this information to improve the existing GIS property database, as well as maintain a solid reference for surveys that will be performed in the future. The original Clermont and Brown County line was surveyed in 1877. Accurately reestablishing the county line will help Clermont County manage issues concerning ODOT road mileage reimbursement, road maintenance, voting districts, tax districts, and jurisdiction for emergency situations.
