PCTel Unveils New Wideband Antennas for Voice and Data Applications

The new antennas respond to the Public Safety market's demand for increased inter-operability of network equipment.

The MLPV4900 low profile antenna is designed for mobile or fixed installations and provides coverage of both 4.9 GHz Broadband Wireless Public Safety frequencies, as well as 5.8 GHz bands used for Wi-Fi wireless mobility applications.

PCTel, Inc.has introduced several new antenna models to respond to the Public Safety market's demand for increased inter-operability of network equipment and the elimination of field adjustments. All the new models designed and developed by PCTel support wideband radios in multi-frequency installations.

"MAXRAD's wideband and multi-band antennas minimize the serious interoperability problems caused by non-compatible radio communications equipment during catastrophic and emergency events," said Jeff Miller, PCTel's vice president and general manager of its Broadband Technology Group. "The new MAXRAD mobile, yagi, and GPS antennas, focused on the Public Safety market, further establish PCTel's leadership for interoperable solutions," added Miller.

The new products include:

* Wideband 136-174 MHz, 38 MHz Bandwidth VHF Mobile Antenna. The MAXRAD MWV1365S ultra-wideband VHF antenna offers full 38 MHz of bandwidth coverage at frequencies ranging from 136 MHz to 174 MHz, with no field tuning required. The antenna design utilizes all metal clad heavy duty RF capacitors, and heavy duty silver plated inductors for maximum performance reliability and high power handling across the specified bands. The design also incorporates a heavy duty spring for added ruggedness and shock absorption under high vibration conditions. The entire assembly has undergone full environmental testing to provide long lasting, reliable performance. This new unity gain model is available in chrome (MWV1365S) or all black finish (BMWV1365S) to complement today's Public Safety vehicles. These antennas are available for immediate shipment.
* 26 dB Gain, GPS L1 Glass Mount Antenna. The MAXRAD AGPS26GMMSMA GPS L1 antenna is designed to provide high 40 dB out-of-band rejection of neighboring RF signals, making it ideal for integration in multi-frequency installations used in the Public Safety, Emergency response and Trucking industries. The new antenna provides 26 dB +/-3 of gain and operates at 3 to 5 Volts. The assembly is permanently encased in a compact, black, UV-stable housing that includes a high bond conformable foam tape for secure installation on uneven glass surfaces. The design allows discrete inside windshield glass placement for minimum visibility and reduced exposure to theft or vandalism. This new antenna will be available for shipment in May, 2007.
* High Gain Yagi Antenna for Broadband Backhaul Systems. The MAXRAD MYAW90017 provides wideband coverage of voice and data frequencies from 880 MHz to 940 MHz, and it is optimized for operation in the 900 to 930 MHz bands. This 17 dBi gain directional antenna features a light weight aluminum construction with folded dipole driven element and single piece heavy duty boom, for reliable performance and added ruggedness. Its 17 elements are DC grounded to the boom for maximum protection of its electrical components under severe environmental conditions. The antenna's end fed N female input provides easier access for installation efficiency. It weighs only 3.2 lbs (1.5 kg) and has a wind area of 0.6 sq ft at 100 mph winds. The MYAW90017 will be available for shipment in May, 2007.
