Sacramento Utility District to Get Wireless System for Warehouse Management

The new warehouse management system will help the utility maintain an accurate, real-time inventory count at all times

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) awarded CIBER a contract to design, manage, install, and support a complete wireless system for the utility's warehouse management needs.

SMUD, the sixth largest publicly-owned utility in the U.S., uses the warehouses to store everything needed to service and maintain residential and commercial utility accounts and power production equipment. The new warehouse management system will reduce costs and improve efficiency by helping the utility maintain an accurate, real-time inventory count at all times, eliminating overstock and out-of-stock situations.

For the project, CIBER will conduct site surveys to determine locations for access points that ensure complete coverage, as well as create schematics and install the hardware. CIBER will also provide overall project management and on-going technical support.

SMUD began doing business on December 31, 1946, and has since grown to provide electric power to residents and businesses in Sacramento and a small portion of Placer County, providing more than 500,000 customers with electric energy service.
