The new Stockholm Challenge GKP Awards 2007 -- which opens for entries on Jan. 1 -- will invite participation by projects in four of the six Challenge categories: Education, Economic Development, Culture and Public Administration. All ICT projects that enter the Stockholm Challenge 2008 in these four categories can choose to compete for the Stockholm Challenge GKP Awards 2007 as well.
The deadline for entries is August 31, 2007. Applicants will answer extra questions in the application form about their project's set-up as a Multi-Stakeholder Partnership. Three finalists will be selected in each of the award categories, all of whom will be invited to participate in the awards ceremony during the 3rd Global Knowledge Conference, an Event on the Future, in Kuala Lumpur in December 2007.
All finalists will be able to exhibit their projects and network during this global event focusing on "Emerging People, Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies." The winners will also be sponsored to participate in the Stockholm Challenge Week and the Stockholm Challenge Award Night in May 2008.
Rinalia Abdul Rahim, GKP executive director, points out the complementary interests and strengths of SC and GKP which are both -- in their respective areas -- recognized as important platforms for the global promotion of knowledge for development (K4D) and ICT for development (ICT4D). "We wanted the Stockholm Challenge GKP Awards 2007 to focus on multi-stakeholder partnerships in order to highlight the importance, relevance and value of these partnerships for development efforts," she said.
