Disaster Zone Predictions for 2022

You could call it—More of the same!

At this point in history it does not take much to predict what is going to happen—disaster wise, in the coming year.

Hurricanes: Yes, those and remember tropical storms that can drop prodigious amounts of water far from the storm surge. That lesson was learned with Hurricane Ida in 2021.

Snow: Scarce in most areas and then maybe an "atmospheric river" of snow in other places. Ski resorts are likely to have troubles in some mountain ranges.

Flooding: Refer to hurricanes above. Record rainstorms that drop historic levels of rain in a single hour. What we keep seeing is records falling all over the nation.

Heat: Hot, hot, hotter weather. Perhaps not another heat dome in the Pacific Northwest, but all areas will see increased warming. That has been the trend in recent years as the hottest years on record keep being the most recent ones we are living through.

Windstorms: Always, punctuated with tornado outbreaks. The Southeast has become another tornado alley of sorts.

Earthquakes: Each year I say we are overdue, especially California which has not had a really good shaker since the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. And, it might not be California. Just about ever area of the United States has an earthquake risk—even New York!

Coronal Mass Ejection: Rare, highly unlikely in any 12 month period, but—like an asteroid, it will happen again in the future, frying the electrical grid.

Cybersecurity: Yes, hacking, ransomware—it is a real money maker for the culprits that get away with it. There are millions of attempts each day, so it is only a matter of time and someone being absentminded as an individual or a third party vendor making the mistake for you. It keeps happening everywhere.

Terrorism: This has many forms, to include whacko individuals from the extremist right wing factions to be self-motivated to do something harmful.

Infrastructure Attack: This could be cyber, perhaps Russia retaliating for an economic consequence put on them by the United States after they invade the Ukraine.

COVID-19: It is not going away. Another variant is likely. More twists and turns as to how the disease evolves and nations react. Eventually endemic, but not in 2022. We remain in response mode!

Supply Chain Disruptions: They continue all the way through 2022. Once the apple cart is upset, it will take a bit to re-right the logistics ship.

Climate Change Impacts: Maybe that ice shelf in Antarctica will finally break off and becomes the worlds largest iceberg.

Alien Attack: Not likely in 2022.
