Mask Deja Vu

N95/KN95 Masks Back in the News.

With the COVID pandemic now getting close to being a two year trial by disease here in the United States, the N95 mask is once again, like it was in the beginning, back in the news.

In February of 2020, I wrote this, The Cost of N95 Masks — If You Can Find Them

Two years ago it was about a shortage of masks, what they cost, and then who should be wearing them? That type of debate, is back in the news. CDC weighs recommending better masks against omicron variant

The supply is much better, yet there are those who are not "all in" on recommending the masks. My wife found some via Amazon, so we have a box of 100 for the two of us.

The concern from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) is that these masks are a tighter fit and therefore people will take them off during the day—which is very possible.

As for the Holdeman's we have switched to these masks due to the prevalence of the Omicron virus and its rapid spread. But then, that is for going out in public to the grocery store, etc. We are not wearing them all-day long.

In my professional office a the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) staff, while all are vaccinated and most triple vaccinated, are now wearing masks in the office when others are present.
Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
