Two HSEEP Myths that Continue

Compliant and Certified don't exist.

Have you ever seen someone say they are "HSEEP Certified" or perhaps a request for proposals (RFP) comes out and it says, "the exercise after action report (AAR) must be HSEEP Compliant?" Both of these often used phrases can easily be debunked by going to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website and looking at the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)

See below:

What is meant by HSEEP compliant?

You will not find the term HSEEP compliant/compliance within the current HSEEP version or the
various FEMA Preparedness Grant requirements. FEMA discounted this terminology in 2010/2011.
The language that you will see is “consistent with HSEEP” or HSEEP consistent”. HSEEP provides
guidance and tools for designing and developing a successful community exercise; it does not
mandate the alignment to a specific format or product.

How do I become HSEEP certified?

There is no such thing as being “HSEEP certified”. Individuals may take the HSEEP course (L/K0146) and receive a certification of completion.
