MIT Hyperloop Team Earns Design and Build Award in Competition

Teams of university students and independent engineering teams competed to design hyperloop pods.

A team of students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) proposed a design-and-build plan for a hyperloop pod that earned it first place in its category this weekend.

University students and independent engineers came together at Texas A&M University to compete for a chance to build transportation pods for the hyperloop — a hypothetical mode of transportation involving a tube-and-pod system that Elon Musk proposed three years ago. Twenty-three teams in the design-and-build category advanced to the next round of competition, where they will put their designs into action on a racetrack this summer.

Along with MIT, four other university teams earned top honors in this category, including Delft University of Technology; University of Wisconsin, Madison; Virginia Tech; and University of California, Irvine.
