300,000 Dead by Monday...400,000 by Inauguration Day

If the body count maintains its current pace.

I grew up coming home from school and watching the NBC Evening News. One feature of the night was the daily body count from the Vietnam War. There were enemy and friendly casualty numbers shared every evening.

Now with COVID-19 grabbing us by the throats, I have feelings of deja vu about the idea of nightly death tolls being announced on all media outlets. At the pace of 3,000 dead a day, the totals will mount quickly. By this coming Monday, three days away, we could have a total of 300,000 dead from the virus and there is nothing that is going to mitigate the daily death totals unless people start behaving differently.

This is why 400,000 dead by Inauguration Day is not out of the question. Yes, the vaccinations will start very soon, but not in the quantities to slow the death toll. It is only our personal behaviors that can make a difference.

Wear a mask, social distance, limit your social exposure to only those who live in your household. Think about how wonderful Christmas 2021 will be, and have a little delayed gratification in your bones.
