A Wiki is still not commonly used by emergency managers. Most know of of Wikipedia since when you Google just about any topic it is the first item that pops up. So, I thought the information below might expand your knowledge a wee bit.

I noticed that a Wiki article was one of the top stories for 2009 for Government Technology. Why? because the IT types are interested in broadening their technological reach and I expect that some are being asked to support efforts within their jurisdictions or organizations.

Here is that article: San Jose, Calif.'s Wikiplanning Project on Course which has a nice paragraph at the opening that lists a couple of other applications for using a Wiki.

Previously I've written about my idea of having a pre-established disaster Wiki. Ideally for a region that provides preparedness information, but then becomes a place for citizens to post disaster information, damage assessments, etc. It would also be a Craigs List like forum for matching resource needs with resources following an event. This would allow needs and resources to find one another without government being in the middle of it.

Might it be that someone out there are tried a disaster Wiki? Anyone?
