Quote: On Courage and Running for Elected Office

Running for elected office is not for the faint of heart.

“It’s amazing what a little courage in the right place at the right time can accomplish.”  John Scherer  When you see something that needs fixing, what is it that you do?  It could be a piece of litter on the street; a weed in someone’s garden or public space; an injustice or an unkind word spoken about some person, race or religion.  How we react when we see needs, defines who we are and what we value.

We can all probably agree that our political system on the Federal level is broken and dysfunctional.  This dysfunction has trickled down to state and local politics on a wide basis.

While I’ve had two opportunities to jump into the political process in the last month I’ve decided to commit to run for elected office for Port of Tacoma Commissioner.  This will be my first foray into being an elected official and I’m sure I’ll learn a great deal about the political process and why, perhaps, it is not as easy as it might seem.  I could sit back and enjoy my summer and garden or I can try to make a difference in my community with my experience, knowledge and passion.

Watch for more information on my campaign and what I’m learning here in these pages or in a new digital forum, yet to be established.  Wish me luck—I’ll need it!
