For those impacted by this disruption it feels more like "destructive technology" because of the affects on business models, and usually on someone's pocket book because of changes brought on by employment.
Our United States shift from producing things to providing services is one such disruption. The Internet, smartphones and the resultant changes in just this one aspect of technology has wrought within our communities and has created winners and losers. Those with an education who are either leading the change or adapting to it are the survivors. Those without an education and no skilled trade are being left rapidly behind.
I think these changes are only going to accelerate in the coming years as technology becomes more and more a part of our society and day-to-day functions. We are living in the Second Renaissance where the availability of information is transforming everything.
