The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

When curious minds want to know.

I love maps and there is nothing like a real-time map that gives you the current situation as seen from the air. Maps also help document population movement, diseases, flooding, sea rise, you name it!

Here is an article on a mapping asset that I didn't recognize, The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. It would appear to have tremendous ability to assist emergency management during disasters. Getting information out of an agency like this and into the hands of practitioners in a timely enough manner to make a difference might be another matter.

Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
