A National Disaster Safety Act

Here is a quick update on legislation being proposed.

You might recall my sharing a Disaster Zone Podcast: "Reducing Disaster Deaths." That episode was with Dr. Mark Keim, who authored the email below that provides an update and a link to the DRAFT legislation to establish a National Disaster Safety Board.

This is how progress is made, the dirty grind of one step in front of the other with perseverance. Also note that Mark is speaking at an early edition of the IAEM Conference on the need for legislation.

Here’s the latest update on the need for a National Disaster Safety Act.

As you recall, the “B” in the “A-B-C” of our proposed National Disaster Strategy involves the establishment of a National Disaster Safetv Board (NDSB) that would investigate the root causes of disaster-related deaths.

Senators Schatz and Cassidy and Representatives Porter and Graves are now introducing bipartisan legislation that would establish a National Disaster Safety Board. https://www.nrdc.org/experts/anna-weber/congress-proposes-national-disaster-safety-board?fbclid=IwAR28_mTuJixQdZK-nrHTu30Hc0zJyTc6caRLSRHRmTdigBKqZ2QZICJL33E

Again….Many thanks Trey and Robert in Senator Schatz office for writing and proposing this NDSB bill! A BIG step forward!!

Also on the horizon, this month I’ll be speaking about the NDSB at the 2020 “Early Edition Speaker Series” of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) on the Thursday, October 29, 2020, 2:00-3:00 PM EST. The title is: “A-B-C: The Need for a National Disaster Safety Act”
