Another Perspective on Boston Sea Rise

Zoning is the solution if you can pass on the development gains.

I mentioned in an earlier post last week about the impacts Boston is seeing from sea rise, with the most recent bomb cyclone bringing the Atlantic Ocean to the streets of Boston.

See this article: Boston’s Rendezvous with Climate Destiny. You can only do so much with mitigation for existing infrastructure and the as-built areas of the city. Stopping new construction in flood zones and those threatened in the future by sea rise is the key. The call for a sea wall can only likely provide a Pyrrhic victory. Billions to build a wall, and how long will it protect the properties that are at risk?

Stop building!
