Can We Air Condition the Outdoors to Avoid the Impact of Climate Change Heat?

Qatar is the one nation that is trying to do just that.

We know heat is a killer. Heat emergencies are becoming more commonplace in nations around the world. Here is what one well-resourced nation is doing about the problem.

Facing unbearable heat, Qatar has begun to air-condition the outdoors

I'm reminded, again, of the story of Hercules trying to drink the oceans of the world. He made very small progress with this huge task. What Qatar is doing is not possible in most nations or locations. Even here in the United States, we have not gotten to that point — yet.

Reducing carbon emissions seems to be a more realistic goal to limit global warming. I don't see Houston trying air conditioning as a solution to outdoor heat and humidity.

The type of heat that Qatar has is an existential threat to human life in that region of the world.
