Computer Simulations for Emergency Management

A little while back I wrote about using computer simulations to enhance your emergency management program. Today I got an email with an article and some good examples, see The Power of Computer-aided Simulations.

The example given is about exercising and training. However, I can see great utility in using a simulation to provide a bit of reality to the planning that we do. Many times our estimates for how long it's going to take to accomplish a task like evacuating a hospital are too optimistic.

The work comes in building the simulation model, but then there are multiple uses for the program over time.
