COVID-19: The Tug of Family and Easter

Sunshine, warmer temperatures are calling people to leave their homes.

It is one thing to stay cooped up in your house on a rainy day, wind blowing and cold temperatures. It quite another thing to stay in your home when the sun is shining, temperatures are warming -- and it is Easter weekend!

Combine those more favorable weather reports with favorable news about how the spread of the coronavirus has ebbed, and you can create a cocktail of quite a different type as little girls and boys run to hug grandma and grandpa.

Now is not the time to let up on "stay at home." There will be plenty of days ahead to celebrate with the family, given you are not in the hospital struggling to breathe.

So resist the urge to see family until the "all clear" is given. And I'm not so sure the message from public health officials will be "go hug someone" starting May 5. There is likely to be a gradual lessening of the social distancing controls, with hugs being one of the last things allowed.
