Award Winning Public Education Brochure

Racine County award winning Disaster Preparedness Brochure

Racine County, Wisconsin is one emergency management program that I follow because their Director, David Maack and I have connected several times.  They recently received notice that:

"The Emergency Brochurethat was developed through the HMEP grant and distributed via our local newspapers, received a First Place Public Awareness Award, in the Division 1: Local Emergency Management category from the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).  Since 1995, Racine County Emergency Management has garnered 22 media awards from IAEM.

This award would not have been possible without the coordination of Jennifer Johnson and the input from members of the Racine County Local Emergency Planning Committee.  In addition, funding was provided through an HMEP grant and I would like to thank Susan Knudson for her persistence-it was her idea to include a Spanish component-and her oversight of the grant."

I believe in the "monkey see, monkey do" form of emergency management.  Why reinvent the wheel when you can copy what others have done successfully.  Check out the brochure that is linked above.  Maybe there is something you can use in your own program.  If it is the first place winner there must be something of value there to learn from.
