Fax machines and pagers have exited the emergency management technology scene. In the 21st century, we need to be using new technologies that help detect ongoing events, organize the information for display on maps and also integrate with information management and communications systems to share that information.
The costs for implementing these new technologies are going down and may be able to be scaled to fit even smaller jurisdictions. I encourage you to listen to the podcast to hear one example of what is available today. It is no longer "pie in the sky" type thinking.
